President Keiko Fujimori confirmed during a visit to El Salvador that the six prisons under construction in Peru will incorporate the Bukele model. She visited the Center for the Confinement of Terrorism on the first day of her activities in the country. She also invited Nayib Bukele to visit Peru and proposed signing a free trade treaty with El Salvador.123
Fujimori and Bukele signed a joint declaration to strengthen bilateral cooperation, with agreements covering justice, health, tourism and organized crime. Premier Luis Galarreta said Fujimori would bring back the "successful model" of Bukele's prisons. Fujimori also said she would declare criminal gangs terrorist organizations after seeing the Salvadoran security model and its mega-prison.4567
Bukele said copying his security system identically would not make sense, because the idiosyncrasy of crime in Peru differs from that of El Salvador. Fujimori described the prison as impressive, telling Bukele "It's impressive, president."89
